Color Guard members who wish to apply for a leadership position must apply by submitting this packet by set date. Students wishing to audition for a leadership spot will NOT be considered if this packet is not submitted.
Applicants must: -Be a current Irmo High School student and have completed TWO seasons with the guard. -Fill out this packet, complete with all questions answered, attached essay, and three teacher recommendations -Participate in an interview that will be conducted by guard staff. -Exhibit quality leadership skills; Honesty, Dependability, Responsibility, Respect of Authority, and Respect of Peers. Leadership Position Description: Leadership positions for the guard are extremely difficult as there are so many things to take into account. Below is what will be expected of the Irmo Guard leaders:
Leading Stretches and Warmups
Be on Time!
Be prepared for all of the "yucky" jobs
Follow ALL the rules, ALL the time
Compliment others for things they've done well
Is responsible for seeing that all guard equipment is put in its proper place after each rehearsal and kept in an orderly manner.
Oversees the loading and unloading of all guard equipment at all events
NEVER use sarcasm in teaching
Put on flags properly / tape poles
Up-keep of all equipment
Maintain storage areas--keep them clean and user-friendly!
NEVER complain in front of other members
Take care of your uniforms and equipment.
Be respectful to your coaching staff at all times.
Starting rehearsal if the Instructor will be late or meeting with others
Assisting the guard staff to identify problem areas or concerns AND helping with solutions
Be the "eyes & ears" between guard members and the color guard staff
Encourage all team members to achieve their full potential
Be the BEST example to other members of the color guard
Organize get-togethers with your section. This will help you and your section bond.
Pass on section traditions; handshakes, pre-competition/game traditions, any unusual sayings, etc. This will keep the tradition alive, and it will establish a sense of being a part of something.
Take roll / notate tardies and absences / call for those who are missing
Communicate with the guard ALL weekly and daily instructions regarding practice and performance
Assist with cleaning! Know your part and help others learn theirs

Recommendations: Attached are three (2) teacher recommendation forms.Please distribute these to the teachers of your choice and have them returned to Mr. Simpson.
